Economics essays that solicit personal reflections of economic matters and issues need good assertions. Assertions are intellectual and positive declarations of the writer. In a general sense, assertions are less substantial. Thus, it is the role of the writer to create qualifying statements to support assertions in the economics essay. Qualifications are sets of standards used to gauge how powerful assertions are.

Assertions, though, can make your economics essay vulnerable especially if it is unevenly phrased.  To prevent weak assertions, you must identify well the qualifying thoughts that support your assertions in the essay.

With a sample statement, here are some guidelines on how to create good assertions for your economics essay:

Example:
The strength of economic activities mainly depends on the business giants and their transactions.

•    Acknowledge the complexity of your thoughts
Complex thoughts in the economics essay often generate a lot of perspectives to the readers. In the sample sentence above, it is a complex assertion. What are the parameters of economic activities? Thus, in your economics essay, you must clearly define the thoughts constituting your topic sentences.
•    Never oversimplify
Oversimplification occurs when you are concluding without considering other factors. In the example, the sentence is oversimplifying that economic activities are within the sole control of the business giants. In writing economics essays, you must add other sentences that support your topic sentences to avoid oversimplification. Going back to the example, you must then add some sentences that can help you specify the thoughts in your topic sentences in the essay.
•    Do not lose your focus
Focus is the key tool in writing good economics essays. As an essay writer, you must always go back to the main subject of your essay even when you are explaining some supporting details.
•    Use qualifying words
Economics essays always have a broad scope. Thus, it is your responsibility to define your scope well in the essay. The use of words like some, few, many, and less, are qualifying words that help define your scope in the essay.

In conclusion, the strength of your economics essay rely more on the strength of your assertions. Powerful assertions are gauged on how you qualify your thoughts in the essay. Thus, the quality of your assertions is determined by how you outline and define it in the economics essay.
