The Persona in Economic Essays

What have you noticed when reading economic essays from other writers? What are their similarities and differences? There are a lot of similarities among economic essays, especially when they refer to the same field of specialty, subject matter or essay question. On the other hand, no matter how similar these economic essays are, they can still be individually distinguished in terms of their respective author’s writing style and content.

All essays have that distinctive personal touch of their authors. It is impossible to separate the essay and the author. In the writing discipline, this personal touch is called the persona of the essay. Essays having unique personas clarify and define the purpose and nature of the author. Persona comes from a Latin word which means actor’s mask. When establishing the persona in your economic essay, it does not mean that you have to be consistent with your mood all throughout the essay. What you must be consistent about is your mood towards the subject matter and the different situations you presented in the economic essay. If you specify a situation that warrants you to be authoritative in your tone, then be it. If you are presented with another situation that requires personal statements or analyses from the gathered statistical data, then present it. The persona adds variety to your economic essay.

When writing economic essays, the same holds true that the writer’s nature and characteristic is also made known in the essay. Thus, as a writer, you must look at the presence of your persona in your economic essay. Is your persona consistent with your character or are you just pretending?
